This is a followup video on the Revox B77 MKII. The pinch solenoid would not engage. The PROM on the tape drive control board died. A new PROM is needed.

The studios in my radio station had these as our standard pre-recorded interviews (among other things) in the late 90s. I really wish I'd bought one for next to nothing years ago - today they're stupid expensive and hard to find. I'd love to have one in my setup, but alas. Also, good music choices.

Good evening. I solved problems with one of the Revox a77 mk1 tape recorders. At the rec board ch2 the coil was interrupted, and at the amp. ch2 had the ria coil also interrupted. Now it runs like new. Now I will switch to another Revox a77 mk3 tape recorder and that one with many problems. Thank you very much for the advice. A good evening.
Actually the MK3 is my favorite A77.

I used to work at Raytheon in Waltham Massachusetts and McIntosh reminds of a little Raytheon because everything is made and tested there which gives them OUTSTANDING quality that lasts a lifetime if you don’t upgrade which is my next move with the flagship Ma 12000 their 75th anniversary this is one of the reasons why I purchased McIntosh products. They’re built right… wow I just noticed there’s an Empire Turntable there that I own now didn’t expect that…
TO my knowledge all A77 VU meters only work in record UNLESS there's been a mod. Put the rec selectors to aux, set them to 1/2 volume, feed in a signal, and press both rec enable buttons. You should then see the meters working.

Did you really complain that your batteries leak in the remote? DON’T use alkaline batteries in remotes!! Just use rechargeables!!

I have the MC 7270 since 1994. It is still working great but I had to get one of the switches repaired by Ryan at Audioclassics.com.

Hi there Nice work with these machines. You should to a tutorial on how to calibrate these machines. I think it would be very valuable as a reference for many people. Even if it is mentioned in the revox manual it is not really straight forward. With your expertise it would have been a very interesting series. Best wishes from Sweden.
I strongly agree that the manual is not easy to understand. It was written for people who already know about tape decks.

I cleaned my UHQU version before I put it on the TT. No distortion, clicks or pops...

I am lucky to own an A810, A807 & a couple of BR-20 decks. They are all outstanding machines. The BR-20 can almost hold it’s own against the STUDER products. Your system is excellent. Graham 🇨🇦
Could you do a comparison of a810 vs Otari?
Sorry I am not able to do that at this time even though I have both decks. The Atari is very flexible in that it can play back both 2 track and 4 track tapes. Sound wise I think it is a tossup between the two decks. Both sounds great to me. But the A810 does have a built-in tape preamp in the headlock.

Glad you covered removing the braking mechanism and the motors. I'm in the middle of restoring a B77 mkii and it turns out the motors are a little noisy. If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase the new motor bearings?

Hello! I also have a question if you don't mind. I have about 4 revox a77 tape recorders, different mk. All have changed all electrolytic capacitors, all tantalum capacitors and all semi-adjustable. When I listen to music, should it also be heard when I switch the selector to stereo? I can't hear any tape recorder on the stereo, even on ch1 or ch2. I have one more question. Does the volume meter work with any of the revox a77 models when listening to music? As for me, it only works on the rec vometers. Any advice is welcome. Thank you very much. A good evening.
You should be hearing sound when the deck is in stereo or ch1 or ch2. Something is wrong with the audio section of your deck. Also the VU meters don't work in playback mode. They only work when you are recording. But I think the A77 mk 4 vu meters will work during playback if the switches are set correctly. If you play a prerecorded tape and get no sound when in stereo it can be a few things. First plug in headphones to the front panel. Do you hear anything with the volume turned up? If not then it is a good chance the Input amp card is not seated properly or has an issue as that handles both channels. Also if you replaced C301 on the "Switch Board" (Page 45 of the service manual) make sure you installed the new one with polarity in the correct direction.

Wow, Matts place is amazing, great soundtrack of my youth in the background too. I’ve just got into reel to reel, just waiting for an Akai GX625 to arrive, can’t wait. I’m an analog guy & collect vinyl, I have vinyl in most areas of my home, mainly reggae, R&B, Soul & Jazz.

I can usually repair those A77 meters. I have repaired 6 so far.. I use toothpicks to center the magnets after two small drops of glue. I screwed up one, with the tiny spring coil breaking off on one end. With my 15 watt Weller pencil soldering iron and very thin solder, I managed to solder the one broken end.... after 3 tries. not for sissies.
Hello Almando. What the manual says about -20dB is that to adjust the BIAS you have to set the oscillator 20dB below the reference level you have set the machine to. If your working level is +4dB then you have to set the oscillator to -16dB. regards(Editado)Recuperar original
